Catholic Kids Camp

Today starts Catholic Kids Camp, which is usually referred to as CKC. Friends of mine have been doing this for several years and last year was the first year that my siblings were able to for all four days. They are going again this year. For this year the theme is Knights and Princesses of God, last year it was Journey to Jerusalem. I would be helping out this year but the kids that I nanny aren't able to go so I won't be able to, because it conflicts with my work schedule. Last year I took pictures for them. TJ is excited because he gets to help out this year and for the skit tomorrow he gets to be St. Dominic Savio. Since I don't work on the last day I might go with, but we shall see.

Each day they have a different skit at the beginning of the morning. (it goes from 9:00 till 1:00) They also learn different songs as well. After the songs and skits they go to their different group stations. There are four groups and they are divided by age. Each group gets a name that is related for the theme during the camp. And each group takes turns doing the different activities, so that things run smoothly. Like one group is doing games, while another group is doing snacks, and the other two groups could be doing crafts or at their home station reading part of the themed coloring book for the camp. When each group is finished with what they are doing they go to one of the stations that they haven't been to yet.

Vacation Part 3

(If you missed part 2 you can find it at the bottom of my post from Friday)

The Wednesday that we were up there we went to Paul Bunyan's for a very yummy late breakfast. Since they serve a loggers breakfast they brought out platters of ham and sausage, biscuits and gravy, pancakes, hash browns and eggs. They also have really, really good donuts! After we finished breakfast we went over to the gift shop that they have and looked around. I got postcards for some friends and a stuffed animal for one of the kids that I nanny. When we finished looking around there we left and did more souvenir shopping. For the other two kids that I nanny I got them shirts. I got a sweatshirt that has the name of where we went on the front of it :) The last place that we went to was the fudge shop. You can watch them make the fudge, my mom made my four younger siblings watch because you don't usually get to see something like that every day. I watched for a little bit before looking around at the rest of the fudge and candy that they have there. In the back of the store they also have an old fashioned looking ice cream parlor. When we got back from shopping we went swimming for a little while.

Since Thursday was the Fourth of July we didn't do much in the morning, though my grandpa took us out for a ride around the lake on his fishing boat. After lunch we went into town for their Fourth of July parade. Roseycheeks and AJ got a lot of candy. When that was over we went and visited one of my dad's aunts and uncles, who live up there, for the evening. Two of my dad's cousins and their families were there as well. We had a nice time with them. After dinner some of us took a short walk down to the lake that they live by. My dad, grandpa, TJ, and great uncle went fishing for a little bit as well. Once they got back from fishing we drove into town again to watch the fireworks. I would have gotten more pictures but I had accidentally switched my camera over to manual mode and I didn't know that until the next day. Since I don't know how to use my camera in manual mode I couldn't take pictures. Though I did take a video of the fireworks for a while, because my arms were tired of holding my camera for that long.

7 Quick Takes Friday

On Tuesday Roseycheeks had a tea party with a bunch of her friends for her tenth birthday. Though I had to work they all had a good time :) Since it is a tradition since we started having tea parties for all of us girls on our tenth birthdays she also had all of the girls who came bring flowers for a friendship bouquet. Here are pictures that I took of the flowers :)

On Wednesday I had a doctor's appointment so my mother and I went to morning mass together and then drove to the office. Since we were a bit early we stopped at Caribou Coffee and got something. I had the Carrot Cake Muffin, which was delicious, and their cold Peach black tea, with sparkling water, you could get it with non sparkling water as well ;), that was good as well. My mom got a coffee and a raspberry scone. There was a cute looking tea shop next door but both my mother and I agreed that the tea shop that's closer to us is cuter.

My Hole in One!
The Monday that we were up there we didn't really do much in the morning, other than the guys going fishing for a while and then we went biking and swimming. At dinner time we went out and got really good pizza and then we all played a game of mini-golf. Since there was twelve of us, my grandparents played mini-golf with us, we were able to divide up into three teams. I was with my grandparents and Roseycheeks, our team came in second at the end of the game. Though I don't remember what my score is now I still had fun. I even got a hole in one. *points to the picture* It was exciting to get it because I haven't ever played gold before and the last time I had played mini-golf was several years ago. After we all finished we went to the ice cream shop that was by the course and had ice cream fore dessert. I got peppermint ice cream.

On Tuesday while we were on vacation we went to Lake Superior since it was about two hours away. The drive up there was a bit boring since it looked pretty much the same. When we got there we were able to wade in the water for a while, which was nice. While we were up there we decided to go hiking in the Porcupine mountains up to Lake of the Clouds. The view was amazing from the observation area. Of course the mosquitoes were horrendous when ever we stopped for a second while hiking through the woods. By the time we got back to the observation area we were all tired out. A while ago Amanda, Yavi, TJ and AJ had gotten Batman shirts so those of us who didn't have shirts got them before we left on vacation and then we all wore them while we hiked. A bunch of people that we passed thought that the matching shirt idea was neat.

When we were done hiking around by Lake of the Clouds we drove over to Nawadah falls since it was near by and hiked around there for a little bit. We also went to Summit Peak, which is the tallest point in the area and you could see lake Superior from the observation tower that they have, before going to the falls. The elevation is 1958 feet. Since I was still tired out I had to stop a couple times while walking up the trail to the observation tower. But I made it, even though I only made it to the landing below the top of the tower.

Vacation Part 1

Since I couldn't think of anything else to post I figured I'd do a couple posts about our family vacation from the beginning of the month.

Day one was just traveling up to the northern woods of Wisconsin for several hours after going to morning mass. It rained for the first half of the trip so I wasn't able to get the Wisconsin sign when we crossed the boarder. We all were looking forward to this trip because we got to stay in cabins instead of our tent, so we just had to carry all of our luggage and food into the cabins and not have to set up the tent. The weather was really nice.

Day two we had a rather interesting conversation over breakfast and while we got ready for mass. After we got back from church mummy, Yavi and my grandma went to the store to buy a bunch of stuff that we didn't bring up and my dad, grandpa, Amanda and her knight in shining armor went to put my grandpa's finish boat into the water and drive it over to the  dock by our cabins. So while everyone else was gone I was babysitting, Roseycheeks, TJ, AJ and Rosalind, who wanted to go swimming in the lake. So I had to go sit down there with them while they swam. Once everyone else came back and we had all had lunch my grandpa and dad took, TJ, Roseycheeks, and AJ out fishing for a while, and while they were gone the rest of us played Farkle, which, though it has a weird name, is fun to play though I almost came in last. When it got darker out we built a fire in the fire pit and tried s'mores in a cone, but thought s didn't turn out very well since the majority of them ended up half burnt. One of the towns near the lake was doing their fireworks that night so we sat on the beach and watched them.

Yummy Desserts

On the 14th we celebrated my grandma's birthday and for dessert Amanda made a recipe that I had found a while ago on Pinterest. It is Chocolate Lasagna and it is delicious. I had first found the recipe when I was looking for dessert recipes to make for the monthly make a dessert for our grandparents, though my mom said no to it for that I pinned it for a rainy day. Though it wasn't a rainy day when we had it. Here is the recipe! The recipe is originally from here.

Prep: 20mn
Total: 1hr 20mn
Cook: N/A

  • 1 package regular Oreo cookies (Not Double Stuff) – about 36 cookies
  • 6 Tablespoon butter, melted
  • 1- 8 ounce package cream cheese, softened
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 Tablespoons cold milk
  • 1- 12 ounce tub Cool Whip, divided
  • 2 – 3.9 ounce packages Chocolate Instant Pudding.
  • 3 1/4 cups cold milk
  • 1 and 1/2 cups mini chocolate chips

  1. Begin by crushing 36 Oreo cookies. I used my food processor for this, but you could also place them in a large ziplock bag and crush them with a rolling pin. When the Oreos have turned into fine crumbs, you are done.
  2. Transfer the Oreo crumbs to a large bowl. Stir in 6 tablespoons melted butter and use a fork to incorporate the butter into the cookie crumbs. When the butter is distributed, transfer the mixture to a 9 x 13 inch baking dish. Press the crumbs into the bottom of the pan. Place the pan in the refrigerator while you work on the additional layers.
  3. Mix the cream cheese with a mixer until light and fluffy. Add in 2 Tablespoons of milk, and sugar, and mix well. Stir in 1 and 1/4 cups Cool Whip. Spread this mixture over the crust.
  4. In a bowl, combine chocolate instant pudding with 3 and 1/4 cups cold milk. Whisk for several minutes until the pudding starts to thicken. Use a spatula to spread the mixture over the previous cream cheese layer. Allow the dessert to rest for about 5 minutes so that the pudding can firm up further.
  5. Spread the remaining Cool Whip over the top. Sprinkle mini chocolate chips evenly over the top. Place in the freezer for 1 hour, or the refrigerator for 4 hours before serving.
