31 DBC: Favorite Comfort Food

  • Cheese
  • sausage
  • veggies
  • pepperoni
  • ham
  • pineapple
Out of the list of food items that are typically found on pizzas my favorites are sausage and plain cheese pizza. Pepperoni is okay once in a while, but it is not a favorite of mine.

When most people hear the words comfort and food together in a sentence it is typical to think of ice cream. While I enjoy eating ice cream, my favorite comfort food is pizza. For me there is something about warm cheesy pizza that is comforting to me.

31 DBC: Top Things on My Bucket List

While there are things that I want to do at some point in the future I never really thought of it as a bucket list. For me a bucket list consists of random things that aren't really done on a frequent basis or when you hear something that isn't typically normal. An example of hearing something that typically isn't the normal thing to hear is a cat throwing up, that happened a couple weeks ago when I was at work.

Because I don't have an official bucket list I can't share the top things that are on it. Unless you count visiting Europe, or going to a concert as a top thing on your bucket list. So far I have only done one of the two examples I just gave. Last year over the summer my family and I went to a Piano Guys concert when they were in the area. It was amazing and something that I crossed off of my sort of existent bucket list.

Getting to listen to a cat puke was something that I mentally crossed off of my bucket list as well, though it wasn't at the top of the list of things to do/hear. But that is besides the point. So instead of having an official bucket list I have a mental list that I keep in my head and if I think that something I did was worthy enough I consider it crossed off the bucket list.

31 DBC: What Do You Collect?

The two things that I collect are knitting needles and yarn. I started my collection of needles when I was 10 years old and my grandma taught me how to knit. But I didn't start collecting my own stash of yarn until a couple years after that.

For a couple years I just had the pair of knitting needles that my grandma had given me, then one year for Christmas I asked for more needles in different sizes, as well as a couple different skeins of different colored yarn. That was when I first really started collecting my stash of yarn and needles.

Of course both collections have grown since then. Back in February I had done a post on the different size needles that I own. Since I wrote that post a pair of size 19 knitting needles has been added to my collection.

My yarn collection hasn't changed much over the years since I started it. The collection started back in either January or February of 2010, when I made a blanket for myself. It was started because the November before my sisters and I had first heard of NaNoWriMo and because we were in the process of moving we didn't do it. So Amanda came up with an idea to make a blanket in a month and Amanda, Yavi and I did just that, and I have no idea if anyone else did it with us. Since there was yarn left over from the finished blanket I hung onto it and used it as the started for my yarn collection.

31 DBC: What Makes Me Feel Better, Always

I am the kind of person who doesn't easily tell people what the problem is, if I am upset or frustrated about something. And I hate it when people bug me to tell them what the matter is. To me, if I am being bugged to explain how I am feeling at a particular moment, I take longer to respond. When I am ready to tell someone how I am feeling about something I will tell them then, and I will do it because I want to and not because they want me too. While I may have a hard time telling others about how I am feeling at at particular moment, there are different things that make me happy.

The first one on the list is going to Adoration!! I love being able to go to an Adoration chapel and sit in silence with Jesus and just think. Silence is something that I enjoy and being able to sit in an Adoration chapel in silence is something that makes me feel better.

The second one on the list is just being there for other people when they need someone to listen too. Because sometimes someone might need to talk about a subject that is weight them down and there is no one in their house who may be available to listen. So as a friend it is important to me to be there for others if they need someone to listen.

31 DBC: Where Would You Like to Visit/Live One Day?

Since I have never left the country this is something that I think about on a somewhat regular basis, or at least when the topic of traveling is brought up in conversations.

One place that I would either like to visit or live in would have to be Ireland. I don't know what it is about this particular country that I like, but it always looks so pretty and quiet.

And after visiting/living in Ireland the next country that I always wanted to visit is Italy. Besides the Vatican being there, Italy is also full of history, especially history that involves the Catholic Church, and since I enjoy learning about history, I would enjoy visiting Italy.

After visiting and/or living in these two countries there aren't really any other countries that I would want to live in or visit, other than England.

31 DBC: 5 Favorite Blogs

This is one of the blog posts where I knew already what I was going to say so it was easy to pick five blogs that I enjoy reading.

1. Homeschooling with Joy. The first blog on the list belongs to my dear mother. Although she hasn't posted much lately, and I know pretty much everything that goes on around our house, I still enjoy reading what she writes on her blog.

2. Elenatintil. This blog belongs to a friend of mine. It is one of my favorite blogs because I enjoy reading what my friend shares on her blog.

3. Shealynn's Faerie Shoppe. This blog is run by another friend of mine. Shealynn runs her own business, which can be found through her blog, and shares pictures of the items that she makes and sells. It is one of my favorite blogs to read because I enjoy seeing everything that she makes and shares on her blog.

4. Books, Roses and Wine. Even though Amanda is my sister, and she sometimes shares stuff that happens at home, just like our mom, I still enjoy reading what she shares.

5. Fresh Modesty. While I don't remember how I found this blog I still enjoy reading what Olivia, the owner of the blog, writes.

31 DBC: How Do You Express Your Creativity?

Just like everyone else I express my creativity in different ways. Some of the ways that I express my creativity is through photography, knitting and writing.

Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception,
Washington D.C. (taken by me)
Through photography I show my creativity with the different pictures that I take and the different ways that they are taken. The picture on the left is an example. I took it back in March when my family and I were in DC for a few days and we visited the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception. Photography is something that I have enjoyed my whole life, though I didn't really get in to it until a few years ago and I enjoy sharing the pictures that I have taken.

Writing is another way that I enjoy expressing my creativity. Even if I don't share my meager attempts at novel writing, usually done during NaNoWriMo, with the rest of the world I still enjoy writing because it gives me a chance to express who I am as a person and what I believe in.

31 DBC: Pet Peeves

Everyone has something(s) that annoys the heck out of them. There are several things that annoy the heck out of me a lot.

One of the biggest pet peeves that I have is when people don't signal ween they are changing lanes and no one is really expecting it at that moment. The turn signal has other jobs than just letting people know that you are turning left or right. And even then some people don't use the turn signal. It is so annoying.

Another pet peeve of mine is when people burp in public and don't even try to stop it. It is very annoying and not very polite.

When people are in your way at the store or a restaurant and you are trying to be polite and the other person doesn't seem to hear you is a bit of a pet peeve of mine. While it's not as high on the list as the the other two, but it is still very annoying to deal with.

31 DBC: 10 Favorite Songs

When I read today's challenge I wasn't sure if I would be able to come up with 10 songs that I really liked and considered to be my favorites, but I think I did a pretty good job of finding enough songs.

1. Water Under The Bridge - Adele

2. See You Again - Carrie Underwood

3. Over You - Miranda Lambert

4. Invincible - Kelly Clarkson

5. Locked Away - R City featuring Adam Levine

6. We Remain - Christina Aguilera

7. You'll Be In My Heart - Phil Collins

8. Don't Stop Believing - Journey

9. Take Flight (Orchestral Version) - Lindsey Sterling

10. I Won't Give Up - Jason Mraz

31 DBC: Something I Miss

The topic for today made it easy for me to figure out what I was going to say here and that what I am going to say is more about someone that I miss rather than something.

The someone that I miss is my grandpa. My grandpa died October, 2013 from Acute Leukemia and it was, and still can be, hard because no one really had the chance to say good-bye.

My grandpa was always there for all 16 grandkids. No matter what the weather my grandpa would be there supporting all of us in our sports or plays. And when he wasn't working or spending time with his family, you could always find my grandpa having a cup of coffee with his friends. And if they weren't having coffee my grandpa and his friends were off fishing somewhere or playing a round of golf.

My grandpa was always coming up with goofy nicknames for everyone or telling a joke. He even came up with a story about keeping a lion in the tool shed at the house. No matter what my grandpa was always laughing about something and hanging out with everyone. Even though I really miss my grandpa I know that I will see him again in heaven.

31 DBC: Where I want to be in 10 Years

10 years from now I want to have lost a decent amount of weight and have a decent paying job. 10 years from now I want to have made a positive change in someone's life.

What we say and do now can have a positive or a negative affect on our future. Because if we say that we want to do certain things in a number of years, but never start working on them, then your future plans are negatively impacted. By working towards your goals and sticking to them, than you can positively impact where you want to be in the future.

Where do I want to be in 10 years? Well like in the first sentence of this post I said that I wanted to lose weight. While I know that it will be hard for me to lose the amount of weight that I want to lose, I won't get anywhere unless I start exercising and eating right. The same goes for having a decent paying job. Now a days in order to get a job it is pretty much required that you have a college degree. Currently I am working towards my Associates in Applied Science to become an Administrative Assistant. While I don't have my degree yet, I have started looking for options in the world for jobs that will fit my degree.

That is a start of where I want to be in 10 years. What comes after that is still unknown.

31 DBC: My Worst Habits

Habits are something that we deal with on a daily basis. Sometimes they are good habits and sometimes they are bad habits.

1. Not putting my clothes away before bed or when I get up in the morning.

2. Not doing a chore right away when I am first asked to do it.

3. Snacking when I don't really need too.

While the above list isn't my worst habits, they aren't good habits. And while there are probably more bad habits that I could add to the list, those are all I could think of at the moment. Like with everything else in life you can make the bad habits better, but only if you work on them. While I might not do them right away I do put my clothes away and at times I do chores without being asked. But the not snacking all the time habit is something that still needs a bit of work.

I don't know if this counts as a bad/worst habit or not, but I can be a bit stubborn at times and I know that my family doesn't appreciate that. But like I just mentioned above, if you don't work on them bad habits won't turn into good habits.

31 DBC: What am I Afraid Of?

While there isn't a whole lot that I am afraid of there are quite a few things that I tend to subconsciously freak myself out about though they are just in my imagination.
Taken by me

1. I feel like I am being watched or followed.

2. Reading ghost stories at night and freaking myself out a little.

This one I am a little afraid of it actually happening.

3. Cars making a right/left hand turn while I am driving and running into my car.

Other then that there isn't a whole lot that I am really afraid of.

31 DBC: A Date You Would Love to Go on

For me the answer to this question is the easiest thing to say and explain why I would do it as a date with someone. (Just in case anyone was wondering, I am not dating at the moment.)

My ideal date, whether it is the first, fifth, or twenty-fifth date, would be to go to a library or a bookstore and we would each pick out one of our favorite books. Once we had the books we would go to a cafe/coffee shop and take turns reading out of the books we picked out.

Reading your favorite book over a cup of hot chocolate/tea/coffee, to me, seems more romantic than going to the movies or out for a fancy dinner. While there is nothing wrong with going to the movies or out for a fancy dinner, I enjoy read a good book more. Reading a good book in front of a fire with a big blanket and a mug of hot chocolate/tea/coffee would be a date that I woukd love to go on if going to a cafe doesn't work out.

31 DBC: Your Favorite Season and Why

Fall, autumn, the season when leaves fall off all of the trees, the season between summer and winter. Out of the four seasons my favorite is fall, even though I was born in the winter.

What I love about fall is all of the leaves changing colors and watching the leaves as they fall off of the trees. I also love the cooler temperatures, because it's not really summer anymore but it's winter yet. Fall also means that you can slowly start bringing out the big sweaters and comfy blankets.

Fall is also a time of hot drinks, like tea, apple cider, coffee, and hot chocolate. It is also a time for bonfires, which I love the smell of. And when there are enough leaves on the ground you can make large leave piles to jump in. Pumpkins are a large part of fall as well.

There is a large pumpkin farm not far from my house and my family used to go there every year when I was younger and we have started going there again. I enjoy going there because it makes fall feel official and I enjoy looking at all of the different kinds of pumpkins that are there as well as enjoying the fresh air and the smell of hay in the air.

That is why fall is my favorite season of the year. Spring is my second favorite season, because everything is coming back to life.

31 DBC: Timeline of My Day

Out off all 31 days of this challenge, this is probably the most boring one out of all of them. At least I think it is very boring. But anyway here is a rough timeline of my day. I hope you enjoy :)

6:45 - 7:00 a.m. Get up and get ready/breakfast

8:15 - 9:00 a.m. morning mass

9:30 - 11:59 a.m. Unless I have school or homework to do, I usually help with laundry, walk over to the library, or do other random things around the house.

12:00 - 1:00 p.m.  Lunch

1:00 - 2:30 p.m. Cleaning up after lunch is usually involved during this time of the day.

2:30 - 10:00 p.m. During the summer I start work at 1:00 p.m. and the ending time for when I get out of work typically varies, though the latest is always 10:00 p.m.

7:00 - 10:30 p.m. Typically on Thursday evenings I go to a young adult group at a nearby church.

10:30 - 11:00 p.m. The time frame for when I usually go to bed.

Every day is pretty much the same.

31 DBC: What's in My Handbag

This one was kind of fun to do, even though it is kind of random at the same time.

FYI: This is not my purse.
In the front pocket of my purse/handbag the list of items contains:

A check book
A pen
A packet of "Hot Cinnamon Spice" tea
Band - aids
Trident brand: Cinnamon Gum
Triple Antibiotic Ointment
A mini notebook
A hospital visitors pass from January

The larger main pocket in my purse holds:

My wallet
A Prayer book
A collapsible hairbrush
My school ID
Pads (because you never know when you are going to need them)
A drink coupon (for the cafe at my school)
Occasionally my cellphone, car keys, and phone charger.

And finally in the small zippered pocket of my purse there is:

A small wood cross (I don't remember where I got it from)
A rosary
Japanese Cherry Blossom hand sanatizer
Nail clippers

31 DBC: Favorite Quote

Even though I have many favorite quotes I already knew which one I was going to use for this post. I came across this post when I put it as the background on my computer. When I first had it as my background I hadn't really read it until I was on my computer several weeks ago and I really read it.

"Don't change so people will like you. Be yourself and the right people will love the real you."

This is my favorite quote because it is true in today's world. In today's world we have to look a certain way and dress the same and have clicks, but we are better then that. Because no matter what anyone says I am not going to accept the world's standards for how I should look, act, and think, for myself. If I did that I wouldn't be true to who I am as a person.

When we are all thinking and acting the same, who will turn the world into a better place? Instead of following the rules set by today's society create your own rules and change the world. I know that there is the age old saying that "Rome wasn't built in a day," well the world wasn't built in a day either. So if we are our real selves then the people we are meant to be with will love us for just being us and no one else. And all of the people who claimed to want to be our friends will melt away and blend in with today's rules and regulations. But we can change that one person at a time.

Even if we annoy the heck out of people, one of the best ways to start changing the world is to be nice to the people around us, even if they don't notice or are rude. So stand out and make a small difference in someone's life and gently change them for the better with an act of kindness.

31 DBC: My Favorite Recipe

This recipe is one of my favorites, and not just because it has cherries in it. So far I have made it twice, once for a potluck and once for my family. Because it is so good and easy to make I decided to share the recipe here :)

Total Time: Prep: 10 min. Bake: 40 min.
Makes: 10-12 servings

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2-1/2 cups sugar, divided
  • 4 teaspoons baking powder

  • 2 tablespoons canola oil
  • 2 cans (14-1/2 ounces each) water-packed pitted tart red cherries, well drained
  • 1/8 teaspoon almond extract
  • Directions

    2. Bake at 375° for 40-45 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the cake portion comes out clean. Serve warm with whipped cream or ice cream if desired. Yield: 10-12 servings.

31 DBC: Most Proud Moment

For today's post it took me a couple days to actually come up with a moment where I was proud of myself. When I first started thinking about what to post all I could come up with was moments when I was proud of my family for something that they did. But after thinking about it hard enough I did come up with a moment where I was proud of myself for something that I did.

The moment that I came up with just happened within the past few months. I have a hard time studying for tests and remembering information and in one of the classes that I took back in the spring I got an "A" on one of the tests we took. And I am proud of myself for that because I am not the greatest when it comes to taking tests.

31 DBC: First Celebrity Crush

When I first saw what the question was that I had to answer for today's post, I already knew my answer. And the answer to who my first celebrity crush is *drum-roll* no one. Celebrity crushes is one of those things that I think is kind of weird and kind of stalker like. While I enjoy watching TV shows and movies I can't say that I have ever had a celebrity crush on any of the actors.

Even though there are four rather hansom looking dudes in the picture provided I don't have a crush on any of them. Just because three out of the four actors play characters in TV shows that I enjoy watching doesn't mean that I am required to have a crush on them. If you asked me a year from now who my first celebrity crush was I would probably still be able to tell you that I never had a crush on a celebrity, and probably never will. And no matter how hard you pester me about it my answer will always be no, because I am the kind of person who doesn't see the point in having a crush on someone, even if they are a celebrity, but that is just my opinion.

Sorry for the mini rant, but I just had to say how I feel about crushes and that I haven't ever had a celebrity crush or a non-celebrity crush on someone. Any how so long, farewell until tomorrow's post.

31 DBC: Piercings and Tattoos?

Since I have never had a tattoo, permanent or temporary, and I probably won't ever get one, I am going with piercings. As far as piercings go only my ear lobes are pierced even though I don't really wear earrings anymore. Even though I don't wear earrings anymore I have tossed around the idea of getting a second piercing. After tossing the idea around and thinking about it I decided no to do it.

I decided not to get the second piercing because, as I have already mentioned, I haven't worn earrings in a while, and the second piercing would look a little weird on their own. And secondly they would be covered up by my annoyingly thick frizzy hair.

The reason why I stopped wearing earrings was because they were making my ears hurt, even when I used neosporin on the holes and the part that goes in your year. Since I haven't worn earrings in a while I may try wearing them again and see how my ears feel. In the even that I start wearing earrings again, I may consider getting a second piercing.

31 DBC: Old Photo of Me

This one wasn't that hard to figure out because I already knew what picture I wanted to use :) Even though I am adorable in the picture, unfortunately I don't look exactly like that anymore. Because if I did it would be a little weird.

31 DBC: 10 Favorite Foods

This list was easier to come up with compared to yesterdays list and the list from day 2 of the challenge. Thankfully the next two days that require me to post something in list form aren't until later in the month, so I have some more time to put the lists together before they are posted.

1. Cherries

2. Vanilla ice cream

3. Cinnamon Raisin bagels

4. Chili

5. Blueberries

6. Sugar cookies

7. Oatmeal Raisin cookies

8. Pizza (cheese/sausage)

9. Cheeseburgers

                                                        10. Apple pie

31 DBC: 3 Personality Traits that I am Proud of

One thing that I can cross off of the list is stubbornness, because that really isn't a personality trait and it's not something that I am proud of. So after some serious thinking here are three personality traits that I am proud of.

1. Being there for others when they need it, even if I don't say anything.

2. Helping out without having to be asked.

3. Listening to someone when they need a friend to talk too.

31 DBC: My Guilty Pleasure

This is one of the easiest one to answer because I knew what I was going to say when I saw what the topic was.

While I don't know how guilty of a pleasure this really is, but I think of it that way. My guilty pleasure is watching Chick Flicks on Netflix, or one of the ones we own on dvd, while eating ice cream. Especially if it is Ben and Jerry's Strawberry Cheesecake, but I try not to make it a habit every time I want to watch a movie.

Even though it sounds bad, I enjoy doing this when my family is out or when they are all in bed, because that is the only time really that the TV is free. Now that I am done with school, and my siblings aren't finished yet, there is time in the morning to steal the TV, but that would be to distracting. Not to mention it would be distracting to everyone else. Besides I find it more enjoyable to watch movies at night.

31 DBC: Earliest Childhood Memory

For today's challenge it was easy for me to come up with at least one memory from my childhood. It is one that I will remember for a long time.

This memory is from when I was about 4 or 5 years old. In the house that we were living in at the time, two of the bedrooms, with one of them being the room that Amanda and I shared, faced into the living area.

From what I remember, it was a couple weeks before Christmas and my grandparents were over and I was upstairs in my bedroom, because it was time for bed, and my parents and grandparents were downstairs decorating the tree. And I just remember sitting on the end of my bed watching them through the railing.

I am not sure why that is one of the earliest memories that I have from my childhood, but it is one of my favorites because I always love seeing all of the decorations that people put out.

31 DBC: Meaning of My Business Name

If they mean the name of a real business, then I have nothing because I don't run a business. Being a part-time nanny doesn't count. But it they mean the name of your blog and the story behind it then I at least have something there. Since I don't have a personal business to run I am going to go with the meaning of the name behind my blog.

"Ask Jesus what he wants from you and be brave." - Pope Francis

The name for my blog is taken from the above quote by the pope. And I believe that it is so true because no matter what we face in life we have to be brave. Because it we aren't brave then who would stand up for what is right?

When I am not posting about knitting projects that I am currently working on, recipes or photography, I try to write posts that make people think. By writing and sharing those posts I am stepping outside of my comfort zone a little. So even if we are comfortable with doing and sharing many things there are many different ways for people to be brave, we just show it in different ways.

31 Day Blog Challenge - Introduction

Welcome to 31 days of craziness here on my blog. It has been a while since I have said this, but I was on Pinterset not that long ago and as I was scrolling through I came across a blog challenge, called "31 Day Blog Challenge" or as I am going to call it "31DBC," I decided to do it. The purpose of this blog challenge is to learn something random about me each day. Day 1 is just a simple introduction about me and who I am, while not giving a ton away so that I still have something to talk about later.

Anyhow, as you probably already know from my "about me" page, I am a twenty-something Pro-life, Catholic college student who still lives at home. In college I am going part-time for my Associates in Applied Science for Administrative Assistant, and while I am doing that I am also working part time. When I am not working or in school I enjoy reading, writing, photography, knitting, and baking. Spending time with my fun, some times crazy, and lovable family is a priority we well.

Now that Ihave introduced myself again and explained about the challenge, I hope you stick around and enjoy reading everything that I will be posting over the next 30 days.
